Animal-derived leather is processed through harmful chemicals and a lot of water is used. It is non-biodegradable and causes water wastage and environmental pollution.
Marketing demand for animal friendly leather products is increasingly growing recently. We at BeerLeather have developed a ground-breaking technology using patented plant based protein bioadhesive together with nano-technology to solve the limitation of current vegan leather alternatives in the market.

WHY WASTE?
Industry waste is inevitable as long as the industry in question stands. Do you think the whole world will suddenly stop drinking beer, the third largest beverage after tea and coffee? We don't.
Beer waste sludge is abundant and no shortage of supply which leads to low cost to produce our BeerLeather. The key materials are from bio-waste which can be a pollution to environment. We can utilise these materials to manufacture high-value products for you to use in your everyday life, instead of being used for animal feed or being sent to landfill.
The process can be tailored to meet different requirements depending on the product. The materials are safe, biodegradable and recyclable to leave low carbon footprint.

Increase in use of leather in different industries such as automotive and fashion industries also increase demand for vegan leather. Furthermore, high income, changing living standard, and internet penetration has increased consumption of vegan leather products. However, non-
availability of raw materials and availability of a substitute product creates threat for growth of the vegan leather market. There is a real need in the leather industry to find an alternative method that addresses the problems above. BeerLeather provides a natural nano-cellulose fibre enhanced leather where the bio-based leather comprising patented CAMBOND plant based adhesives together with nano-cellulose fibers as well as one or more natural fabric lining materials to meet different customer needs.

The Royal Society of Chemistry has backed BeerLeather from the start - giving us support through an internship to lead the project from the formulation and design, all the way to creating the final products for you to enjoy.

Through an amazing MSDUK Accelerator Program we were able to learn incredible business tips and advice which helped us to push forward in the creation of BeerLeather. Once the program had ended, we had the opportunity to pitch in front of corporate members to raise the profile of our idea as well as potentially collaborating with one of them. The experience has led to many successful developments within the company.
